4COOLER SHOOTOUT

Wow, 3 coolers to test, the 4th being my externally ducted fop32, which will be the yard stick by which we will measure the performance of the 3 other coolers. The  coolers to be tested will be the  Thermaltake MINI COPPER ORB, the Thermaltake VOLCANO 2 and the Cooler Master  DP5-6H51 cooler.

 Thermaltake Mini Copper Orb.   12v , 0.26a , 3.12w , 5500rpm 23.1cfm at 29dBa.

Application : Socket A / 462 (will fit socket 370)

TEST= 566celeron @850mhz 1.7v ,  software = 3dmark2000 and Quake. room temp 20deg Celsius .

  On to the test.

First , yes I was able to get the cpu to 850mhz, second, it seemed to run real cool . So for the first test  I ran 3Dmark2000 benchmark , and then I played Quake for a couple of games . Wow look at those results.

25deg C , now thats the best Orb cooler I have ever seen, Ive seen a few other copper orb tests and I thought , yeah not bad!  Not bad , that's as good as the Fop38. The room temp is 20deg C and the side cover is on for this test. Here is a Orb cooler that OCers can actually use to cool their cpu's and still OC to the maximum that air cooling will allow. Thermaltake has come up with a serious product here and to say its good is an understatement, this orb cooler corrects whats wrong with most orb coolers , it actually has very good cooling power, its not just a pretty face.

Conclusion

The  Thermaltake Mini Copper Orb is extremely  well made , and I must say the easiest cooler ever to clip onto my 566celeron . For a 5500 rpm fan , this is one quiet cooler. So what can I say, I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this cooler, hell I actually started counting my pennies to see if I could justify buying another cooler. This is one well made , good looking cooler that actually performs as well as it looks . 10 out of 10 Thermaltake, you have a winner here .

Thermaltake VOLCANO 11, 12v, 0.22a , 2.64w , 4500rpm , 36cfm , and 31.5dBa.

Application : socket A / 462 (fits socket 370)

On to the test

This cooler looks good, and Ive wanted to test the Volcano 2 for some time.  Again a quiet cooler , for those who seek out such things. As you can see from the test resaults.

25deg C in a nice straight line , making this another fine Thermaltake product.  The test was conducted with the side cover on , and I must say this is one consistent cooler.

 Conclusion

The Volcano 2 has been out  for some time now , and I must say in all fairness that this is one fine cooler , perhaps not quite as good as the mini copper orb , but the margin is so small that in the end it must come down to desire and the price one is willing to pay for what one wants. The equal of the Fop38 to say the very least, and if the price is anything to go by , a cheaper alternative for the same results, with far less noise for those whom may be sensitive to such things . If I had the money , another cooler that I would like in my personal collection.

Cooler Master DP5-6H51

The Cooler Master cooler is the light weight in this shoot out, not only in performance but price as well, being the cheapest cooler tested by a good $10 or more. Surprise surprise , the Cooler Master held its own rather well , just goes to show.

That price isn't everything. Ok it didn't win , and it certainly didn't shame itself  either. 27deg C after doing a 3Dmark2000 benchmark and then playing a few games of quake to top it off . Just remember that Cooler Master are pushing this product as a quality stock cooler, not as a OCing supper tool OK.

  Conclusion

Another fine cooler , with a higher performance fan fitted it would have given the other coolers a serious run for their money, and thinking just how little this cooler costs compared to the others , and the fact that it wasn't really that far behind in performance, would make the Cooler Master excellent value for the money . For the price , under $25retail , you cant go wrong.

Externally Ducted FOP32.( don't know it?, read the story)

Ok , finally time for the Externally ducted fop32 , so lets see how it did.

25deg C . The same as the Mini Copper Orb. Well I guess this says a lot for the Mini Copper Orb. Ive been a fan of the externally ducted fop32 ever since I came up with the idea,  and  I didn't think anything else would really impress me very much. Oh the folly of mere human beings, I should have known that a cooler would come along that would impress the hell out of everyone . And its here, still maybe not the very best but good enough to share the limelight I think. Say hello to the Mini Copper Orb. The King of the Orb Coolers by far, and the only orb cooler you should consider buying for OCing.

I would like to thank Peter from Nucleus Computer for making this review possible as he kindly loaned me the coolers for testing. Thank you Peter.
