PALITDAYTONA GF2ti
Introduction: The PalitDaytona GF2titanium is a new card from Palit . Enough has been said about GF2ti cards that Im not going to bore you with the standard features , just let me say that the Core clock speed is 250mhz , and the Memory is clocked at 400mhz and it comes with 64meg of DDR ram, the mem interface is 128-bit , 1 billion pixels per second , 31million Triangels per second and 6.4GB/sec mem bandwidth , no TV/out , making it possibly the cheapest 64meg GF2titanium card you can buy in Australia at the moment . System : Asus A7V133c MB with a 1ghz AMD T-bird @ 8.5x133mhz bus = 1133mhz , Seagate 20gig ATA100 7200rpm HDD , 384meg Pc133 SD ram , Soundblaster live sound card , 50x CD-rom , 32x8x4 CDRW , 8.4gig Seagate ATA66 HDD , TVexcel TV card . The Test: I performed the testing with the Nvidia 22.50 Drivers , esp as they were already installed and in use by my GF2mx . If you read the Radeon 7000 review you would know that my GF2mx does about 2767 3Dmarks in 3Dmark2001 . So lets see what the GF2ti can do . An increase of around 1300 3Dmarks over the old GF2mx , and keeping in mind that my MB is SDram , a score of around 4040 3Dmarks is about right . So how about Quake . With Quake set to default and then set to 32bit mode and 1280x1024 screen resolution I got 80.4 FPS , in 16bit mode and 1280x1024 I got 112FPS , so to put some perspective on that . With Quake set to default , 16bit mode , 1024x768 screen res , The GF2ti does 129.6FPS , GF2mx does 89.6FPS , and the Radeon 7000 does 32.9FPS . For a change of pace , I set Quake to High Quality 32bit 1024x768 sc/res and got 121FPS . Its important to note that Quake is maxing out at 133.4FPS for me and wont run much faster no mater what . Overclocking : This card comes with PowerStrip 3 Beta as part of the software package , and is included for its obvious overclocking feature. To start things of I took the core to 275mhz and the memory to 458mhz for approximately a 10% overclock . This gave a score of 4272 3Damrks in 3Dmark2001 and 8469 3Dmarks in 3Dmark2000 . Next I pushed the core clock to 288mhz and the memory to 486mhz , giving a score of 4346 3Dmarks in 3Dmark2001 , there was a fair bit of artifacts showing up during the last test so I didn't push the card any higher . Either the core or the memory had maxed out , and a more aggressive cooling solution would be needed if one was going to overclock this card past 10%, without doing permanent damage to the core or ram . Well I had to know which . Setting the core speed back to 250mhz I set the ram for 470mhz , Some minor artifacts started to appear , so it looks like ram sinks would be a good idea . Setting the ram to 458mhz I began to push the core , I got it to 295mhz with no problems , but at 305mhz 3Dmark2001 locked up half way through the test . With good quality ram sinks and a better GPU cooler , this card could be a reasonable overclocker . Conclusion: For what is a economy performance card , I can hardly fault this card . Its right up there with other GF2ti cards as far as frame rates and 3Dmark2001 scores go. There are no extra bells and whistles , just good speed . There is a definite improvement in image quality over the GF2mx card ( 1st generation card,) that I have been using for the last year . In fact the PalitDaytona GF2ti is cheaper than my GF2mx was one year ago . So if you are not ready to plunk down $500 or more on a GF3 , but you still want a card that is fast , cheap , and will play those new games with good frame rates . I give this card 8 out of 10 , I would have liked to have seen ram sinks , and a slightly larger cooler on the GPU , and better overclocking abilities , but then it would not be a economy card . Well you pay for what you get , sometimes you pay more and at other times you pay less , well here is a card you will be paying less for , and for the price , its a good card that deserves your consideration . Now I haven't said what the price is as it is up to the individual retailer as to what they charge : but expect this card to be only a bit over $200 Aust , again , I stress that it is up to each retailer as to what they charge for this card , and you may even find that it may go under $200 in the near future , who can tell .
