Please excuse the picture as I have limited bandwidth , Ive been testing this software for some time now , and read a few of the reviews posted on the web so far , some have been good , whilst others have been rather damming , in my own personal experience I have found both : Let me explain , when this software works , it works well , doing all that was advertised , but it does not work all the time , esp when chopping and changing drivers, Nvidia  / direct X / and VIA 4in1 Drivers , I dont know why , or where to lay the blame , but certain combinations of the 3 , and WinTasks 4 wont run , with the Det 29.42 drivers / direct X8.1 / ?? on the VIA 4in1 drivers , WinTasks 4 would not run , after updating to the latest  Via 442v(a)p2 Drivers , Wintasks 4 ran just fine , so  dont ask me , I just take stuff out for a test drive , and report the results . So be aware ok , if WinTasks 4 Pro dont work for you , it could be the combination of drivers you use with Win98SE

WinTasks 4 Professional

For IT professionals, software developers and other advanced users, WinTasks 4 Professional makes resource management easier than ever before. Including features like detailed cpu usage graphs per process, system presets and a built-in scripting language, WinTasks 4 Professional is an essential addition to any advanced Windows user's toolbox

  • Remove unnecessary processes instantaneously
  • Free up valuable memory and cpu resources
  • Create presets to optimize all common tasks
  • Use the built-in logs and statistics to eliminate resource leaks and other problems
  • Create custom scripts to automatically optimize the use of important resources

Testing :

First of Im no software expert , an advanced Windows user perhaps , so keep that in mind ok . So the question begs , why would I want WinTasks 4 Professional , well this software arrived just in time as I was having some problems with Win98SE , every time I went to turn Win98 off , the Dial up screen would pop up , for the modem , ? , well , what the hell was going on here , ctrl-alt-del , did not show me what was going on , neither did going to RUN - msconfig , WT4 allows you to monitor your entire system from boot to shut down , and after about 30minutes of running WT4 I found the offending software and removed it from my system , solving my little problem .

In the picture above you can see Navapw32.exe highlighted , by clicking on modules , you get a popup screen that shows you all the modules that are running that particular software . If your really worried about system security , you can take a screen capture , of every application running and the modules its made up of and save them for future comparison , Industrial espionage is rife these days .

Clicking on Autostart , shows you the 3rd party applications that start up with windows , using Autostart you can disable any or all of the applications , or add some of your own choosing . From the above  screen I personally disabled nwiz.exe / install , and RUNDLLE32.EXE NvQTwk,NvCplDaemon initialize . The applications dont need to be running , and simply take up CPU cycles needlessly .

Conclusion :

WinTasks 4 Pro's ability to monitor you're entire system from boot to shut down , is in itself a very desirable and appreciated aspect of this software , being able to chose what software starts up with windows is also very nice , what I have not touched on is the power of this software , its ability to write scripts / to enable software / or to stop certain windows applications from running  , creating presets to optimize common tasks , this software in the wrong hands ( mine ) could very well mean a re install of your software if you get carried away , in fact I did disable certain windows modules to see what would happen , and was I relived to find things restored to normal after rebooting windows ( glad i didnt remove them as it would seem that disabling modules only lasts for that windows session and things are set back to normal on rebooting : well they did for me / still be very careful with this software ) .

For those who need to know whats going on , and to help maintain security , Wintasks 4 Pro might be just what you have been looking for , esp when it comes to tracking down unauthorized activity on your main frame or system . Even for us everyday ( web surfers ) users , to see if a Virus / Trojan / or some kind of spyware has attached itself to our computer , WT4 can be used to monitor and track down the offending software so that you can manually remove it from the system .

Personally , I loved this software , and if you take your system security seriously enough , then here is another weapon , to add to your security arsenal , the cost = Under 40 Euro's currently . Liutilities has already posted a update for this software that you can download for free , so even though I really liked this software , keep in mind that with certain combinations of Via 4in1's / Nvidia Det / and Direct X the software refused to run , which can be rather bad if you have found a combination you like and WT4pro  wont run on , which would mean , you either dont get to run WT4pro or you have to change your driver combination to one that will allow WT4pro to run .

Well I still liked the software a lot , and I give it 8 out of 10 , the 2 missing points for the driver combination problem with Win98SE .
